Find Out About The GSI Outdoors JavaPress 50 Ounce

Making coffee while camping is a good thing, but you need to realize that if you are used to using a JavaPress it is going to be difficult for you to find the right item to bring camping with you. This is why so many different camping gear supply companies have come out with a lot of different products to provide you with the chance to make coffee while camping outside of having to use a percolator all the time. One of those companies is GSI Outdoors who has had a wide variety of products that have come to the market and in this instance, I am going to be talking about the GSI Outdoors JavaPress 50 Ounce size press. This way you will know if this press will work for your needs, but also if it will be a good one to take on your camping trip or if you should consider something a little bit more old-fashioned like a coffee percolator. With that being said, let us open up our review of this product by discussing the features first.

Features Of The GSI Outdoors JavaPress 50 Ounce

  • This is a portable French Press that is going to make it very easy for you to take it with you on the go, but also have the same type of quality you would want to have with the coffee that you get from a press. The construction of this product is something else that has allowed a lot of the flexibility you would want to have with it when you are going to go camping.
  • Just like the 30-fluid ounce JavaPress by GSI Outdoors, this is another product that is going to have the same type of patented plunger. This is going to make it easier for you to avoid getting the coffee grounds into your coffee. However, it is important for you to realize that just like a normal French Press this is only going to work if you are using the proper precautions when you are using the press and not just walking up and pushing the plunger down as quickly as possible. If you are doing that then you will notice that it is going to have grounds in it even if you are trying to use a steel plate with very fine mesh for the filter.
  • The lid for the JavaPress is insulated and it does have an insulated sleeve that is going to make it easier for you to have a cup of coffee that is going to last you for a long period of time. Now, I would not recommend drinking out of this unless you are able to drink out of a pour spout, but I will tell you that if you are pouring this into a different cup it will have a longer heat retainment compared to some of the other French Presses that may just have the simple metal top that can easily transfer the heat out and is not properly insulated. Throw in the sleeve that you are getting with this product and it will make it easier for you to get the insulation factor you want to have to keep the coffee warm for a long period of time.
  • The construction of this that we mentioned above is definitely going to make this a great product for camping as the glass part itself is actually made from a very durable plastic. This plastic is what will keep it from breaking when you are camping, but it will also make it easier for you to have a great time because it makes it easier to pack while camping. The handle is another factor that people tend to ask quite a bit about and that is because it does look like it would be a little bit on the flimsy side. However, this is a handle that is made from very high-quality nylon that will not break easily but also feels good in your hand.

What I Like About This Camping Coffee JavaPress

Well, I have to say the first thing that I like is the durability of the product. While you may think it is made of plastic, which can melt with high heat or start to get flexible, this is not the case. So I have to admit that I really like the fact this is very durable and it does not really shatter easily when you are using it. What else is nice is the handle that is going to feel good in your hand and because it is made from nylon it really does not have the heat transfer that you would expect.

What else I really like is the patent they have on the plunger that you are going to use to get the coffee made from the French Press. That is because I really like the fact that this does not really have a lot of coffee grounds come through it. This is a great product for that reason because it means that I do not really have to worry about trying to chew my coffee like I have in the past with some of the other coffee presses that I have used in the past.

Finally, I love the fact this is a product that is very portable. That is really going to make it quite a bit easier for me to get the product and know that it will allow me to take it almost anywhere I am going. This could be the camping trip I plan on taking later on this year, but it could also be to the office when I want to make my coffee on my own without having to drink the coffee that is being made in the break room.

What I Did Not Care For

Well,  I know that the product has the wrap that goes around the outside to help provide the insulation factor, but it also helps to give the handle that you need. I really do not care for this because I have some horrible luck when I am pouring items out of a pitcher and I always tend to spill. With this, it just means that I am going to spill it onto the cloth that is wrapped around the JavaPress.

My Final Thoughts On The GSI Outdoors JavaPress 50 Ounce

I have to admit this is a product that is going to last you for a long period of time and seems to be a very durable product. This is going to make it quite a bit easier for you to take it camping with you and know it will work for your needs. However, what else is great is how easy this is to move around and basically throw around as well without it breaking. Overall, I have to say the GSI Outdoors JavaPress 50 Ounce is one that will work for making you some great coffee while camping.
