While we are still going to consider the location, we are placing the natural beauty of the parks a little bit above what we would normally give them when compared to the amenities. A lot of this comes from the fact that Maine is such a great place to check out and camp in, that we want to enjoy nature more than think about the amenities the campground offers.

7. Somes Sound View Campground

The Somes Sound View Campground is one that you are going to love if you like being close to the coastal areas of Maine. What is even better is the campground allows you to have some great views of the sound and actually will give you plenty of camping that is somewhat isolated compared to some of the other campgrounds as the location only has 50 sites that are going to cater to a variety of camping from the RV’s to the basic tent. So this definitely makes it easier for you to enjoy this campground to enjoy.

What else is great about this location, in addition to the amazing views it has, you will find that it does offer you some recreation activities. These are going to be mainly for the kids like a pool and an older playground, but they are available for the kids to enjoy. If you are looking for more things the entire family can do, then you may want to check out the hiking and biking trails that are in the area as they are going to allow you to do quite a bit, while enjoying your trip.

6. Lily Bay State Park

The Lily Bay State Park is located in what a lot of people will consider to be one of the most beautiful regions of Maine and that is the Moosehead Lake region. Just having a chance to go out and enjoy this campground is a treat, but once you start to see the natural beauty of the campground and realize it is a state park, which means it is maintained really well you will find it is even better.

When you are staying at Lily Bay State Park you will notice that it does have a lot going for it. You will not only have all the sounds of nature, which is right up to the doorstep almost as you can tell from the picture, but you will also have the chance to walk on trails, go boating on the lake, and with the boating you can imagine the fishing you can do. What else is great is you do have a chance to even bring your ATV as the park does have some ATV trails that are close by as well. If the weather is warm enough you will be able to enjoy swimming, but make sure you are mindful of the temperatures. This is one campground that can accept RVs as well, if they are under 35 foot long.

5. Bradbury Mountain State Park

Bradybury Mountain State Park is an older national park that was handed back over to the state in 1939.  As the name suggest you are going to be near the mountains and in some cases even in them. However, the elevations will not be as soaring high as what you would find in the Rockies or even further South in the same chain. The good news is the campground proper is really small as it only has 35 sites available, but it can handle almost anything that you can put on it as long as it is under 35 foot long.

If you do stay in the campground proper you will not be disappointed. The campground has extensive miles of trails and some amazing views. The picture you can see above is just one of the views you will have a chance to catch. What else is great is this is another one of the coastal campgrounds you will be able to enjoy and if you go on the right trails, instead of catching the views of the barns and leaves, you will be able to see the ocean. You will want to make sure you reserve these spots in advance and do it soon as these campsites do fill up quickly.

4. Searsport Shores

Searsport Shores is a great location to go if yo uare looking to be right up on the ocean. The campground is one that will allow you to get an almost amazing ocean front campsite no matter where you are in the park. What else is great is the place is very relaxing and somewhat out of the way compared to some of the other places that you could have checked out.

Now, this location does not have as much in the way of amenities as what you will find in some of the other camprounds. However, when you are right on the ocean and close enough to walk to some lighthouses and drive to others I think that would trump the chance to go into the campground pool. So this definitely makes up for the lack of the amenities you can find at some locations as I mentioned, in Maine it is all about the natural beauty and you do not get much better than the Atlantic Ocean.

3. Blackwoods Campground – Acadia National Park

When you are in Acadia National Park, you will notice that it does have several campground. Blackwoods Campground is just one of the campgrounds you will be able to enjoy here. This campground has some great views and for it being part of the National Park is going to be affordable for almost anyone who is looking to go on vacation.

At Blackwoods Campground you will notice you are going to be able to get the right relaxation as the campground is fairly quiet and it does have the shoreline for you to explore. No matter what the views that are available from the campground are going to set this campground apart from all the others you can visit and the ound of the ocean will make it easier for you to enjoy the location. Throw in the great trails and you will not be disappointed in what you are going to be doing and seeing when you are here.

2. Hemlock Grove Campground

When you are thinking of Maine you may think about all the logging that has happened in the state. While this does happen and still does, you will find that it is definitely something that will be easier for you to deal with as you can camp in some great campgrounds like Hemlock Grove Campground. What else is great about this location is the fact that it is close to a ton of recreation.

The recreation you have available will run the gamut from having 4 different beaches that are close to the campground. At the same time, you will be able to easily go to Kennebunkport and when you are here you will have easy access to the huge Edwin L. Smith Preserve which is going to allow you to start to explore all that nature has to offer you to see in a location that is quiet and full of animals you usually would not be able to see.

1. Sebago Lake State Park

The Sebago Lake State Park is one that has quite a few sites as it has over 200 sites available for you to pick from. This definitely allows you too have plenty of things to see and do. However, what you will find is this campground is also one of hte cleanest you can find in Maine. Which is going to really make it one of the best places to put your camping equipment.

When you are camping here you will find that you are going to need to make sure you check out the lake itself as it has plenty of amenities for you to enjoy and this definitely will make it easier for you to have a great trip that you are going to enjoy and know it will make it easier for you to have a great trip with plenty of natural recreation to do.

This really is going to come down to you. I know that I have found that this is a great state to go camping in and it is going to be easier for you to have a great trip. The key thing that you need to consider is the location of the campground, but also where it is located in relation to the natural beauty of the region. Since this is the case, I am going to say when you are looking at the 7 best campgrounds in Maine, you should find the one that best suits your needs and know it will be rewarding no matter which place you decide to go camping in Maine.
