How Is It Used

As we have talked about each tent is different and each one is going to be used the basic same way. You set it up and you sleep in it. However, with this tent they have decided to make the walls straight, which can make it difficult to set up, but they have went one step further and made the frame steel. The good news is the set up claims to be easy because this is a tent that supposedly is going to use the steel frame which will lock up into the hubs that are available and use a pin and ring system to make the set up a snap. So the set up is very easy to do and in most cases the experienced people are able to put the tent up in under 30 minutes, but even for a beginner the time is a little under an hour.  A key point to make here is you may need to get some longer stakes to drive into the ground to help secure the tent in place if you are trying to stay out in a rainy season as the tent stakes are reported to be short.

Size Of The Tent

Wenzel Kodiak family cabin tent without rain coversOkay, since you plan on traveling with your family the size of the tent is a major consideration for you to make. You will typically find the cheaper tents will only fit one or two people at the most. This tent as was already mentioned will sleep 9 people. So you can see this tent is already large, but you probably are curious about just how large the tent is and that is going to be answered right here. The center height of this tent measures just at 7.17 feet. The edge of the tent does show a sizable drop as it goes down to 5.42 feet. The entire footprint of the tent is nice and roomy as well and measures 14 feet x 14 feet, which in a lot of the reviews is large enough to fit two queen sized air beds inside of.

The Good
  • Has storage pockets inside the tent.
  • Straight sidewalls means more space.
  • Uses a sturdy steel frame for the tent structure.
  • Has a sewn room divider.
The Bad
  • Weight makes this cumbersome for people.
  • Requires a 14' x 14' space for the tent.
  • Zipper seams can leak rain when it starts to rain.

Style Of Tent

When you go out camping you will often want to do so in a stylish manner. I know that this is more of a challenge than what it sounds like, but with this tent you are going to have a great looking tent that is very stylish for you to get used to having . The door that is present is the D style and this makes it a little bit easier to have some privacy and get some entrance in and out of the tent. However, you will find the tent has 4 different windows for you to enjoy as well. The best part is 2 of these windows are going to be the bay style window that you want to enjoy, but you will also find you have 2 of picture windows, which makes it easy for you to look at the nature that is surrounding you.

Steel Frame Is Very Strong And Durable

Okay, now this is something you may not realize, but a lot of the tents are starting to use aluminum or plastic for their tent frames. While this is a nice thing for weight control of the tent it can also be a real pain as well because this means the tents are not as durable as what they used to be. So you will want to make sure you know this tent has only the steel frames, which you will be able to enjoy. You will enjoy this feature because the tent frame is made from steel and this means the tent is going to be durable and able to withstand quite a bit of the weather that you can face.

Easy To Use For Beginners

Okay, lets face it not everyone is going to be an advanced camper right off the bat. In fact, most of the time when a family is going camping, it is because the kids have badgered the dad into admitting that a camping trip would be a great idea. Never mind the fact that the dad may have never been camping before since they were in boy scouts if at all. With this tent, it is beginner friendly and this allows the new campers to go out camping and enjoy the camping trip, rather than having to fight with the camping trip all of the time.

Rain Covers

Wenzel Kodiak Family Cabin With Rain CoverOkay, rain can be a real damper on a camping trip. I mean the rain typically means your campfire is going to be out, but the campground can also be less friendly because the people are stuck in the campers or tents. When you are stuck in a tent, it will be the pits, but what is even worse is when the tent has some leaks or does not have a cover over the netting on the roof of the tent. With the Wenzel, it not only has the mesh on the top, which can allow in the rain, it also has the rain covers that prevents the rain from coming through the mesh.

Pros

  • Sewn In Room Divider
  • Has a total of 4 windows in the tent
  • Can fit 2 queen size air mattresses in the tent with plenty of room left over.
  • Built in storage cubes for your belongings
  • Holds up to quite a bit of the weather you can face.

Cons

  • Can be difficult to get the sides upright without a droop
  • Zippers can easily break and come unzipped because of how tight they are stretched
  • Rain fly is rather tight fitting and can be hard to install.

Price Factors

Looking at all the prices for the Kodiak tent really gave me some reserve. The prices were really all over the place, but each one of them cost quite a bit more than Amazon. So that should tell you something about how much money people want to spend on these tents. However, I would recommend you clicking on the picture below to find the everyday low price that Amazon is offering.

What Others Are Saying

Okay, you have read what we have had to say about the tent. However, you are probably asking yourself what everyone else is saying about the tent. The vast majority of the reviews on the tent has been very positive. In fact out of 113 reviews, only 8 of them have been a 1 star on Amazon. The main complaint with the 1 star reviews was the fact the zipper was easy to break and could become a major issue over time. With the majority of the positive reviews people are talking about how easy the tent is to set up, windows provide plenty of viewing space, but also the fact the tent is durable. So this will help you make an educated choice on how well the tent will work for you.

Our Final Thoughts

Wenzel WoodsOur final thoughts, well, it is going to be hard to tell you not to get this tent. However, I think the optimal family tent  will always come from Coleman. I think that is mainly because I remember my parents using Coleman tents well before I was born. Plus, I remember walking through the store and the majority of the gear that is on the shelf is Coleman. If you want a tent that will work great, though, and keep you protected this is a nice tent to buy. Just make sure you remember this tent is not our first choice. The other key thing is to make sure you enjoy yourself when you go out camping.
