Find The Best Campgrounds In Utah For 2019

Best Campgrounds In Utah for 2019Utah is one state that a lot of people know mainly because it has a lot of national parks. However, what you need to realize is camping in Utah is one of the best ways to make the most out of the state and get away from the crowds that can be found in places like Salt Lake City. What is really nice is according to multiple resources, including utah.com/camping, the state has over 7,000 campsites and numerous campgrounds, but what is even better is you have multiple areas outside of those 7,000 sites that allow for primitive camping. With such a large selection on where to go camping in Utah, you can see the challenge that I had in narrowing down the list of the best campgrounds in Utah for 2019. However, I did a lot of work and research and did narrow down the list, but as for primitive camping, you will need to check with each location on an individual basis as I did try to stick to campgrounds.

How Did I Work On The List Of Campgrounds

I can honestly say this was one of those challenges that I had to overcome because I loved almost all the campgrounds that I saw. However, I started to consider what I would want to have in a campground and know that my taste are fairly similar to those of other people as well. Since that is the case, I decided to go a step further in this rating and have tried to narrow down tent and RV campgrounds. I do make a note in the description of each campground as to if they do accept RVs or not, but decided to try to include a variety for people who have an RV to find a campground in Utah and those that do not have one get a chance to find a campground to stay in as well.

1. Watchman Campground

Watchman Campground UtahWatchman Campground is located just a 1/4 mile from the South entrance of Zion National Park. However, what is definitely noticeable is this is a year round campground that has electric at the majority of the sites. You do not need to fret if you have a tent as you can find several non-electric sites that are meant for tents, but you can also find the group campsites as well that will make it easier for large groups, like scouts, to go camping in the national park. As for the natural wonders here you will notice it does have a large stone formation that is overlooking the campground and the Virgin River down below. Hiking is one thing that is enjoyable when staying at Watchman as you have 3 separate trails to hike and each one is a little bit more enjoyable than the last one.

2. Goblin Valley State Park

State Campground View - Goblin ValleyGoblin Valley State Park is a place that is very enjoyable and is considered more of a luxury camping area as it does have a lot to offer for the camper and it is a smaller location as well. That is what really makes this location one of the best for you to check out because it has a lot of natural beauty for you to enjoy, but it has quite a bit for you to enjoy as well. The goblin-like stone formations definitely make this one place for you to check out and enjoy because it does have a lot for you to see and check out. Also, it is very easy to enjoy all the different things you can check out when you are in the region with the different trails close to the campground and park. Now, as far as camping Goblin Valley State Park offers 2 luxury yurts for you to stay in, but if you want a tent spot you have 10 sites available with a pad and you do have 14 RV sites as well.

3. Spruces – Big Cottonwood

Spruces is located in a very close area to Salt Lake City. However, what is really amazing about this campground is the fact that it has a lot for you to see and do because of not only the location to Salt Lake City, but also the fact it is located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, which is one of the more scenic regions that you can check out. At Spruces campground it has multiple sites to enjoy and it does allow you to get several group spots as well, even if you are staying in nearby Salt Lake City and want to get out of the city for a while it is easy to do here as Spruces has several picnic areas you can enjoy. If you are looking for something to do at Spruces it is easy to enjoy the hiking of the numerous trails, fishing, and having a chance to go biking on different trails

4. Antelope Island State Park

Antelope Island State ParkAre you looking for a place that is going to offer you a ton of water recreation activities? I know that in Utah you may not think about the different water recreation activities you can do, at least that is what I thought. Antelope Island State Park is located in the middle of Great Salt Lake, but it is one place that has a ton of wildlife that you can check out and know it is wildlife that you typically would not be able to see. Some of the wildlife you can catch glimpses of bison, pronghorn sheep, and even the big horn sheep. All of these are amazing animals you can see, but throw in the waterfowl that call the lake home and you are sure to find a great  number of animals you have never seen before. As far as camping, you will notice the campsites are all primitive, which makes it easier for you to get away from electronics and their daily problems, but also if you want to catch some glimpses of the stars you cannot go wrong here.

5. Conestoga Ranch

Covered wagons similiar to those you find in Conestoga Campground Utah.Conestoga Ranch is definitely a place that you may want to consider if you are looking for a glamping type of experience. The location of Conestoga Ranch is close to Bear Lake, but it is going to be a great place for you to go camping as well because of the unique experience it is going to offer you. Now, you may think that since this is glamping and they provide almost everything that you would need it is boring. That is far from the case, though, as you will find the covered wagons are a great option for you to stay in and one that you are sure to  enjoy as it does make it easier for you to have a great time and place to stay. What is really cool and fun to explore is the fact this location has some caves that are close by for you to explore. I also enjoy the fact this campground in Utah is located close to multiple locations to take a day trip to like Grand Teton and even Yellowstone.

6. Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park

Coral Pink Sand Dune State Park A unique look and amazing perspective is something you can find at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. This is a place that has a lot going for it and it is ran by the state, which allows you to have an extra layer of protection and routine patrols by the park service. At the same time, though, you will notice it makes it easier for you to get the enjoyment of seeing the beautiful pink to what some people would consider the rust colored sands of the area. At this campground you will notice it is well known for having some of the best for having off road vehicle type of fun as the sands around the park are great for it, but you can also enjoy some amazing hikes. It is important to make your reservations early at this campground as it does only have 22 sites that you can stay at.

7. Hitch-N-Post RV Campground

The Hitch-N-Post RV Campground is one that has a lot going for it. The park is located in Southern Utah, which can make it difficult to find the location at times, but you will find it is also close to almost everything that you would want to see in the Southern Utah region. The campground itself is more of an RV park and does offer a lot of the same options you would expect to see at an RV park. The sites are 50 foot long, which some people would consider a little bit short, but for most of the midsized RVs this campground will work great for your camping needs. If you are tent camping at Hitch-N-Post the tent spots are shady, which allows you to be able to bear the summer heat a little bit better, but unlike some locations that have a pool you are within walking distance of a city pool.

8. Dead Horse Point State Park

Dead Horse Paint State ParkWhen you are looking for a great view of the different canyons and other areas in Utah then you will want to check out Dead Horse Point State Park. The campground here is definitely one of those that allows you to have a great view of the canyons and even a great overlook of the Colorado River. What else is great is the park covers over 5,000 acres and this allows you to explore quite a bit of the land in Utah. Once you are inside of the state park you will notice that you have a couple of different campgrounds to stay at. Each campground has its own pluses and minuses, but you will find that Kayenta Campground is a campground that is going to have junipers around it and provide you with quite a bit of shade. Wingate Campground is another location you can fall in love with. The campground is a little bit on the smaller side with 31 sites of which 20 are ready for an RV, but 11 of which are hike-in tent type of sites you will want to check out. If you are looking for some yurts, the Wingate Campground offers some yurt options, but you will notice Moenkopi Yurts is another area for you to check out.

9. Rendezvous Beach

Bear Lake is near the Utah and Idaho borderLocated in Bear Lake State Park you are going to find Rendezvous Beach. The campground is one you are going to love because it has plenty for you to do, but it is fairly limited in the types of amenities you will have available as it is located on the beach. What is great is because of the location here you have plenty of water activities that will make it easier for you to get out and enjoy the water even more and know you will be able to enjoy the location because of the amenities, but also the chance to get into the water and cool off from the heat. That alone is a major plus as even with this type of Northern location it can still get really warm during the summer months.

10. Mountain Valley RV Resort

As you can tell by the name this is a location that is going to be in a mountain valley. That is going to allow you to enjoy the location more than what you imagined, but also have a chance to take in the climate you are going to love. What is great is the location is sheltered from most of the horrible weather of the desert region by the Rocky Mountains. Not to mention, the Mountain Valley RV Resort has everything you could want in an RV park that is open year round so the pool may be limited in the winter. The closeness to the Rocky Mountains and the valley that is here is going to make it easier for you to find something to do as the valley is one of the best areas for you to explore and enjoy.
