What Are The Dimensions Of Cabela’s West Wind 6 Person Tent

The dimensions makes it easier for you to know exactly how much space you need. Since that is the case here are the dimensions of PRODUCT.

With a tent it is very valuable to know how big the floor of the tent it. The tent floor for the Cabela’s West Wind 6 person tent is coming in at 9’6”W x 12’L and 6’3” tall. The peak height for the tent comes in at 6’3” and should be plenty of space for most people.

The Weight of the tent is coming in at 22 pounds and 12 ounces, so it is a little bit on the heavier side.

The Tent Can Stand Heavy Rains

I am sure that a lot of you have heard the old adage that a tent can withstand water. Then when you get out in a light shower or a heavy dew you wake up soaked? Well, that has happened quite a bit to me and to some of my friends that are camping. This type of claim and how it is proposed does tend to lead to a lot of distrust in the claim.

Now, I will say that I was very doubtful if this would be another tent that claims to sell you the world in water proof, but fails. However, the good news is this is one tent that does have the statement right and in most of the cases you do stay dry. One thing that I would recommend doing to ensure you stay dry is to make sure you treat the seams with a sealant as well as what the factory put on.

With the tent does this mean that it will keep you completely dry if you are in a hurricanes, but that would be on you. Just like most of the tents, though, if you see heavy rains in the forecast you do need to take the proper precautions, but please note that with the rain fly properly installed and the tent seams treated right the probability of the tent leaking is reduced.

Plenty Of Space To Stretch Out

Tents have a reputation of being very crowded and not having a lot of room. However, with the Cabela’s Tent here it does provide a lot of extra space for you to stretch out. This makes it easier for you to keep your legs from getting cramped, but also for everyone to be comfortable.

A lot of the comfort factors, though, are going to hinge on several factors. One of the biggest factors you have to take into account is the size of everyone that is going to be in the tent and the amount of gear brought. The average adults will find the tent to be spacious and as long as a lot of gear is not in the tent have plenty of room.

On the flip side, though, if you are bringing everyone that is the height of Shaq, then the tent will get cramped. So please note that while I did mention the tent has a lot of room available if you are a larger individual you may not be as comfortable in the tent.

No-See-Um Nylon Panels At Top

Bugs are one of the biggest pest you have to deal with at night while camping. That comes from the fact that the bugs tend to fit through a lot of the mesh that would be used as the window screens or even the side screens of a tent.

With this tent it has the No-See-Um nylon panels at the top of the walls. This allows for the proper ventilation of the tent and makes it easier for you to get the tent full of fresh air without having to worry about any of the bugs coming into the tent.

What else makes the tent even better is the fact that it has the No-See-Um coverage for the windows in the tent as well. This includes the tent door and the window of the tent. These make it easier for you to keep the tent properly ventilated and even at night have the tent with the air blowing out at night on the warmer evenings.

Five Pole Design Makes Setup Easy

A tent is definitely one of those parts of camping that is great to have. However, what you need to realize is that the tent set up can be very difficult to do at times. Look for the tent setup to be easier than what you think with the five pole design here.

While the poles are not exactly the same that you would find with a Coleman that are the snap together kind, they do work great. Still these poles are very easy to use and tend to snap together really quickly and easily.

What else is great about the five pole design is the fact that it makes it easier to have the tent stabilized. The stabilization from the tent is going to make it easier for you to use the tent and not have to worry about it falling in in itself or even worse falling in when the tent gets a heavy wind or storm.

Vestibule At Front Of Tent For Storage

Most of the tents that I have looked at have a rain fly that goes straight down and does not provide any added square footage. However, with the Cabela’s West Wind tent it does have the rain fly and it provides a nice vestibule area for your gear storage.

The gear storage is not that large of a space, though, but it is a great place to store your muddy boots, coats, or even rain gear. At the same time, if you want to have a shaded area for your cooler that is the place to put it as well. It is important to keep a close eye on the size of the cooler you have picked out so it does not force the rain fly area open.

One issue that you may find with the vestibule area is the lack of a flooring area. This comes from the fact that this is meant for the entryway of the tent and it will not need to have a floor area. This does mean that it can be wet at times and if you have placed your tent in the wrong spot then you could end up with a very muddy area to get your shoes on.

Tent Is Meant For Only 3 Seasons

I know that not everyone likes to go camping in the middle of winter. That is par for the course, but when you spend over 200 hundred bucks on a tent you would want to use it quite a bit. Well, this is a tent that is geared and rated for only 3 seasons of the year and not all of the season.

The good news is the tent will last you for a longer period of time without it being used in the middle of winter. The winter weather tends to have a lot of moisture when your camping. This excessive moisture tends to keep the tent wetter and this can easily lead to the tent failing you faster.

The plus side is even on the warmer summer days that are super humid you do not have to be as worried about the tent not meeting your needs. That is because the air flow will keep the tent cooler, but also if the evenings get like some of the places have been lately cool at night you can close down some of the windows and keep the tent warm enough for your camping trip.

Mesh Pockets Can Get Gear Stuck

The mesh pockets are a great way to store personal items. Now, the pockets are not overly large and if you try to store too much in the pockets they are going to fill up and keep you from being able to take care of the gear properly.

Since the pockets are smaller in size you need to realize that it will fit most of your essential items you want to keep close to you, but not have stored in a bag.

The downside is like most of the mesh products if you are putting your keys in the bags they can and by all purposes do get caught. The fact that these do work on keeping the keys in is a plus, but if you are like me you tend to grab the things in a hurry and when you do that here it gets stuck and that can tear the mesh pockets.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The mesh windows allow for air flow at night without bugs.
  • The material is durable for the tent construction.
  • Vestibule area is large enough to store muddy gear outside.
  • The tent is able to hold up to 6 adults comfortably.
  • The rainfly is a full coverage rainfly to keep everything and everyone dry.
Cons
  • The tent is a little bit on the heavy side and not meant for hiking trips.
  • Fiberglass poles can make set up difficult for a single person, but not impossible.

Who Would Like This

The tent is a nice one that a family would love to camp in. The tent has plenty of space to stretch out in, but also has plenty of space for your kids to store their toys. Now, if you are in a larger family then you may not be able to get the comfort that you want to have with the tent and the kids toys.

The other group that should enjoy this tent would be the group that likes the camping trips with proper ventilation. This is because the nylon mesh for the windows and the sides at the top provides plenty of air flow and even on the warmer nights you can keep the windows open and not be concerned about bugs getting in and bugging you.

Who Would Not Like This

Larger families or group camping people would not care for this tent. Yes, it does fit 6 people, but the downside is that even with 6 people in the tent it does not meet a larger families needs. Face it a large family tends to come with bags for each person for toiletries, clothing, and different creature comforts. So the larger families may not find the tent to be the best for their needs.

The other group that would not really care for this tent is the people who are backpacking. With the size of the tent fitting 6 people it would definitely provide ample space for the hiking group that is not overly large. However, the problem that comes is the weight which clocks in at 22 pounds. Once you factor in the weight of the tent and the other gear needed you may find it is very difficult to carry the backpack with the tent.

Whats In The Box

Buying the Cabela’s West Wind 6 Person Tent often means you are going to get a great item to take care of your camping shelter. Still, it is important to know what is inside of the box to guarantee you get everything you need. Since that is the case here is what is in the box for the Cabela’s West Wind Tent.

The first and most obvious thing that is included in the box is the tent itself. However, the tent also comes with the rainfly as well. The rain fly area is the part that will provide you with the extra space to create your vestibule area.

Now, a couple of other things that are included in the tent that we really like is the guy lines, which are attached. The lightweight fiberglass poles, steel stakes to anchor the tent. Unlike some of the other tents that we have looked at before this is a tent that includes a carrying bag, but even better the tent comes with a repair kit as well.

Additional Accessories To Consider

When you are buying the Cabela’s West Wind you may want to consider the following items to help make the product work even better.  Some of these accessories will help out right away, but others are going to be items that you find out down the line.

While it is not required, I tend to buy a tent sealant. This is something that I have to put into the tent each time to get the seams sealed up properly. Now, the tents are already factory sealed so this is an extra safety feature that I like, but it is also a feature that I think we all should use since it does help keep your tent waterproof for a longer period of time.

Something else that I always get with my tents, no matter where they come from is extra pegs. These pegs are not something that you should ever have to use, but I like having them on hand. This way if a tent peg does break or in this case since it is steel bends, I have one to replace it right away.

What Others Are Saying

While I do provide quite a bit of information about the item here, I want to give you information from others. Here is some of the feedback that has been left by other reviews online.

A review from Bass Pro Shops buyer, FishFor Dale, has this to say about the tent. ”After 11 years my rainfly is getting a few leaks in some down pours”. Now, that is after 11 years of use so you can imagine that it is well cared for, but it is also a testament to the ability of the tent to last for a long period of time when properly cared for.
